Angers Overview |
| Just 179 miles from Paris and with roughly 25,000 college students living life to the full in Angers there is an air of vitality and joie de vivre in the city, and the nightlife bounces. With museums, grand old buildings, bars, restaurants and discos, the traveller will never find himself at a loss for some entertainment. It is also a regional centre and frequently used as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside and chateau district to the west. |

Angers Essentials |
Cathedrale St-Maurice - Dating from the 12th century the cathedral has been added to over the ages and has some beautiful and ancient stained-glass windows that have made the church famous.
Chateau d'Angers - Home to the notorious Black Falcon, the Comtes d'Anjou, in the ninth century, and later the scene of King Rene’s dazzling courtesans and brilliant soirees, the chateau eventually was turned into a prison by Louis XIV, and then served time as the Nazi’s munitions depot when it was bombed by the Allies in 1944. Guided tours are offered of this historic and interesting place.
Musee Jean Lurçat - This museum is housed in a building that dates back to 1174, and was then a hospital. Today it displays an assortment of artifacts and items that will keep you intrigued for hours.
