Bandol Overview |
| On the coast between Marseilles and Toulon, Bandol is a seaside resort with its many sandy beaches, cliffs, inlets and creeks, all part of its natural enviroment and surrounded by hills of pines and willows. Founded in 1715 and developed rapidly, thanks to the wines, which are amongst the best in France and which helped develop the port and industry of cooperage. The port is also well catered to suit yachts and its underwater sealife and crystal clear waters make this an ideal spot for scuba divers. |

Bandol Essentials |
Le Vignoble de Bandol - These "wines of Bandol" gather 53 independent wine growers together, who wish to produce little, but well and along with the good conditions and quality of soil, produce wines to international standards, which make Bandol wines famous. The cellar also has a museum of cooperage and over 8000 tools of the wine grower and tours and tastings are available daily.
Sanary - Just outside Bandol, is this small port with its Mediterranean enviroment, the vibrant colours of the port and village frontage, the shaded palm-tree terraces and the flower market on the town hall square, every morning, which attract visitors to stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere.
The beaches - Being a seaside resort, it lends itself to all the sports associated with the water, sand and surf, like water skiing, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, water parachuting, surfing or just sunbathing. Bandol will have something for all who enjoy the sea and its associations.
Hot Air Ballooning - Float in the montgolfier, under the blue skies, with the company of birds and travel over mountains, vineyards and cornfields and the many small villages around Bandol. Discover nature and her silence in these one to one-and-a-half hour trips.
St. Francois Church - The vault was built in 1746 and was used by the Bishop of Marseilles and was a dependent of the parish of Cadiere until 1751 when it was granted status of full parish church. Situated in the heart of the port, the church is dedicated to Saint Francois, known as the Dirty Ones. The Church remains in beautiful 18th Century condition and provides a different view in this seaside resort. |

Bandol Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events |
Bastille Day - Held on the 14 July, it is France's most important holiday and where public celebrations do not come much grander. There are spectacular fireworks and much singing of "La Marseillaise."
May Day - Traditionally held on the First of May, the French use this holiday to give gifts of "muguet", a lily of the valley flower for good luck. |
