Palais des Gouverneurs - This grand old 14th century building has Moorish overtones with a great round tower and courtyard arcades.
Terra Nova - Once the military centre, Terra Nova is now home to Bastia’s upwardly mobile younger generation who has turned the old place into a trendy mod-spot.
Eglise Ste-Marie - Dating back to 1458 this church served as Bastia’s cathedral until 1801, but still houses the silver statue of the Virgin which is carried through the town over the Festival of the Assumption.
Oratoire Ste-Croix - This 16th century chapel with its intense blue and gilt decoration in typical Louis XV style holds the sacred, blackened oak crucifix, the Christ des Miracles, which was discovered by fishermen in 1428 and was floating in the sea in a misty incandescent cloud of vapour.
Musee d'Ethnographie - This museum housed in the palace tracks Corsica’s history from prehistoric times. |
