Brignoles Overview
Lies on the banks of the Caramy river and is the capital of Centre Var. Situated between Aix en Provence (45km) and Fréjus (60km), it is the commercial, administrative and educational centre of the area. The counts of Provence built their palace here in the twelfth century. The museum features a sarcophagus of the 13th century and Christian altars of the 14th and 16th century. Their is much to explore in this old city, from the ramparts, the old stone towers, squares to the ancient doors which give this city its authentic charm.

Brignoles Essentials
Fleur de Lys - The home of the flower of lily, situated next to the Town hall dates from the 17th century. It has accommodated many royalties in its time. Louis XIV and his mother spent the night in the house in 1660 when they were in their way to Cotignac. After spending the night the attended a mass at the vault of Augustins. Charles IX accompanied by Catherine de Médicis, the duke of Anjou and Henri de Navarre, stayed over at the house when he visited Provence, the hermitages of Sainte-Baume and Our Lady of the Graces in 1564. Between May 20 and May 26, 1538, Francois 1st, stayed here when he went to Nice for a meeting with Charles Quint.

Pierre des Huguenots - When Catherine de Médicis agreed to asylum for the Huguenots, she sent royal troops to escort them in order to prevent uprising. It is during this period that a group stopped over to spend the night in Brignoles. The following message was engraved on a stone in front of the house where they stayed over: "on August 28, 1563, the Huguenots were here".

Palais des Comtes de Provence - This old palace was built in 1264 by the Counts of Provence to be used as a summer residence. It consisted of a tower and a castle with thick walls whose southern frontage formed an integral part of the ramparts and formed a continuance of it. It was here that Charles signed the proclamation of the creation of the Court of Auditors and where the proclamation of installation of the Parliament of Provence was published on November 28, 1502. The palace became a museum of the Brignolais county in 1945.

Eglise Saint Sauveur - A significant increase in the population with the arrival of the Counts of Provence, larger church had to constructed. Saint-Sauveur was probably named after the cathedral of Aix-en-Provence. because of a lack of space the church could only be built facing north to south. The two founders of the Christian church is represented on the two huge doors of the church. On the left, Saint-Paul holding a bible with and a sword and on the right, Saint-Pierre, in holding the keys of the paradise.
