| Used as the setting for the film ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’, the magnificent old citadel of Carcassonne dates back to times before the birth of Christ. Restored in 1844 by Viollet-le-Duc, it still stands as majestically today as it ever did on its lofty plateau in the Garonne Valley. One of the most spectacular sights in France, the citadel brings an enormous influx of tourists eager to view the ancient fortress.
