Strasbourg Overview |
Strasbourg is located in the Alsace region of France along the west bank of the Rhine. Strasbourg has a history not only of prosperity but also religious conflict. The city, like the rest of the Alsace has been under both German and French control at different stages of its history. However, with this conflict now over Strasbourg’s geographic position has allowed it to become one of the premier cities in the EU. The European Court of Human Rights is only one of the several important buildings located here.
Strasbourg is both beautiful and modern, and manages to combine German and French influences together seamlessly. The city of Strasbourg is probably the most important and endearing city in eastern France and is definitely worth a visit. |

Strasbourg Essentials |
The European Parliament - This is one of the three HQ’s of EU decision making. The building itself is striking and visitors can gain an interesting insight into European politics by taking a tour.
The Museum of Art Modern and Contemporary - The Museum of Art Modern and Contemporary hosts a chronologically ordered collection of art which includes work from artists such as Monet, Picasso and Sarkis.
The Rohan Place Museums - This former palace located slap bang in the middle of the city is home to three separate museums - the Decorative Arts Museum, the Fine Arts Museum and the Archaeological Museum.
Notre-Dam of Strasbourg - This incredible cathedral is a true masterpiece and took over a quarter of a century to build. Not only is the cathedral an awe inspiring building but by climbing to its top one can get a fantastic view the incredible Alsatian countryside.
Petite France - The atmosphere is as unique as the architecture in this pretty quarter of Strasbourg where German and French influences blend together to great effect. |
